| 'Children are our future; teach them
well and let them lead the way'--lyrics from a song or the
philosophy of an educator? Prior to coming to work with the CR-B school district in 1995, I worked in employment and training in the human services field for many years. Client after client expressed a fear of school, even though education was the pathway to employment that would end the poverty in which they lived. Each statement echoed the same theme--high school had been negative, no one had cared, and they were failures. They were not failures: the system had failed them. At CR-B, our mission is to provide all students the opportunity to develop their abilities to become self-supporting and responsible citizens, productive individuals, and lifelong learners in a changing world. As an educator at CR-B, I have the opportunity to support and nurture students of today to become self-supporting and responsible citizens of tomorrow to enable them to lead the way. |
